GLENDALE, Colo. (CBS4) – Glendale Police Chief Victor Ross has confirmed that he has resigned after being placed on leave about six weeks ago.

“I resigned, it was time for a change,” Ross told CBS4 Tuesday. Glendale had placed Ross on leave in late February, although city officials and Ross declined to reveal why the long time Chief was suspended.

Glendale has about 4,000 residents within its one square mile. In 2011 its officers responded to nearly 18,000 calls.

Ross led the Glendale Police Department for approximately 10 years before his sudden suspension.

Ross told CBS4 he agreed to a severance package but declined to say how much money he received. Glendale City Manager Jerry Peters confirmed Ross’ departure but also refused to say why Ross was forced out or how much Glendale was paying its former chief.

Ross said he was unsure of his future plans.

It appears Glendale will name his replacement at a city council meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening. A city council agenda for April 2 contains an item labeled “Confirmation of Chief of Police.”
